Woman clothed with the Sun
The name Mary finds its roots in mer —
of the sea.
A tide of emotional currents flowing within us.
A space of healing.
A force of profound transformation.
Through water, this series dives inward —
toward the heart.
Toward joy and sorrow, virtue and love.
Toward compassion for a world in pain.
She is not distant, nor untouched.
She is inhabited by the Sacred Heart —
and that heart is fire.
Across all times, humanity has carried both creation and destruction within it.
This calling is not unique to our era.
It is a reminder —
made urgent by how easily everything is now within reach.
I chose to create this project with Amal Alnabwany.
Her presence is not incidental.
Amal embodies love, resilience, and hope — not as concepts, but as lived experience. She is Syrian, from a land both holy and wounded, where beauty and destruction have long been intertwined.
She carries sorrow — loss, death, and rupture — more intimately than many of us ever will. Yet she has shaped her life into an expression of generosity and grace. Her understanding of emotion, across its full spectrum, is rare — moving with equal depth through light and darkness.
This project is a gesture toward resilience.
Toward peace.

For me, this series beautifully portrays the rage, the blood, the darkness, the guttural presence and power of life in myself as a woman.
In this white Christian culture, we are shamed into fearing and devaluing these elements of femininity.
And yet, with audacious clarity, these elements are claimed and honoured with deep reverence to the whole woman.
The embodiment of the raw and anchored sensuality is both stirring and enriching.
I feel so validated and alive seeing these parts of myself reflected back to me. More please.
