The Underwater World

Below the surface unfolds a vivid realm, rich with life and color.
It invites the viewer to enter an alternate universe, shaped by different laws of movement, time, and breath.

Women's Voice

Too often, the world tries to silence brilliance,
burying light beneath chains, shadows, and stereotypes.

Yet the rise is undeniable — present in every song, every smile, every act of resistance.
A reminder of the sacredness that lives within.

In honoring each one of us, we learn to remember our own humanity.

The Call of Depths

For the photographer — and human being — that I am, the world of freediving competitions is a rare space where artistry emerges naturally.

This is no game, no performance. It is pure, raw, at its finest.

I witness extraordinary athletes facing dives that unfold exactly as planned, and others that do not. In those moments, intensity thickens, time slows, and emotion rises to the surface.

The density of what is lived underwater and above leaves its mark — on them, on me, and on all of us — long after the dive is over.

Horses

During my time with the horses of Camargue, I was struck by a sense of ease and mutual curiosity, unfolding within a relatively free environment. It was this freedom that made the encounter so compelling.

What I witnessed was playfulness, confidence, and connection.

Spirits of Camargue

As you enter the world of this series, you are invited to feel the different rhythms we followed with the horses.

The first meeting, the curiosity, their gentle approach as they came closer to know us.

Slowly, this presence transformed into trust, before unfolding into power — long runs through the waters of Camargue, flamingos in the background, undisturbed.

After this phase, which could feel like a storm, everything settled again.

But differently.

White horses were now wet, muddy, and grey — I was too — as the sun began to set. The horses gradually distanced themselves, and I witnessed the quiet magic of their strength, expressed through respect for their needs and their rhythm.

The fading light supported this transition, until we all returned home, eyes and hearts full.

One single breath held. One vision.

Laura Mommicchi creates ethereal underwater imagery shaped by personal vision or developed in response to commissioned work. Rather than using scuba equipment, she works exclusively on a single breath hold, fostering a heightened connection between movement, water, and image.

Her practice extends beyond the aquatic realm. On land, she observes and respects the natural rhythm of wildlife and animals, allowing authenticity and presence to define each photograph.

Though early in her career, her work has already gained recognition. In 2025, she received two nominations from the Exposure One Awards for her underwater photography and her work with horses.

This marks the opening chapter of an evolving artistic journey.

Animals

Whether in the ocean or on land, I wait for permission to enter. I do not decide — nature does.
In the savannah of Kenya, the same rules guide my presence.

These encounters carry a quiet humility. They are a reminder that we are all part of the same planet, and that humans are not above. Here, the lioness, the elephant, the giraffe — each animal — leads the game, leads the dance. I follow, attentive and grateful.

Privileged Encounters

This series holds a special place, as it marks the beginning of my photographic journey. Each moment lived in Kenya — with animals and with people from different tribes — was unique. Captured in 2008, this work is only being shared now.

For a long time, it remained a quiet dream, carefully kept. To show it meant revealing that dream — and myself — at the same time. I have grown and changed since then, both as a woman and as a photographer, yet the essence of this series remained something I wished to share.

May these images invite you to witness the abundance of natural beauty that our world can still offer.
